Preparing a bottle feed

To help prevent infection, it’s important to keep your baby’s feeding equipment clean and sterile. By following these simple steps, you can lower their exposure to harmful bacteria that can cause upset tummies, sickness and diarrhoea.

  • Step 1

Wash hands thoroughly before preparing the feed

  • Step 2

Wash and then sterilise bottles and teats by submerging in water and boiling for 5 minutes or using an approved steriliser.

  • Step 3

Boil safe drinking water and allow to cool until lukewarm.

  • Step 4

Measure the required volume of lukewarm water into a sterilised feeding bottle.

  • Step 5

Use only the scoop enclosed in the container. Measure the correct amount of formula according to the instructions on the can.

  • Step 6

Stir or shake briskly to dissolve the powder.

  • Step 7

Test the temperature on wrist before feeding

  • Step 8

Feed immediately and discard unfinished feeds.
